Palliative care supports individuals of any age who have reached the end stage of a life-threatening disease or illness. The main objective of palliative care is to provide medical as well as non-medical support to keep the client as comfortable as possible and assist the family throughout the process.
Palliative care includes the support of a range of medical and non-medical professionals -- doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses or nursing aids – and can be combined with curative medical therapy. However, the aim is to manage the symptoms rather than to cure the ailment.
